For over a decade DOVES has hosted its signature event, “Starry Starry Night”. In 2015 we decided to take a break and revisit the event in the future…in 2016 we did just that. We decided to bring back our much anticipated event but with a lot of changes. Our biggest change involved us seeking a more suitable location because in the past we were experiencing difficulty with the limited amount of venues that are available in Big Bear. Community Church was selected as it checked most of the boxes except one…no alcohol. I have always been told that you can’t have a fundraiser without alcohol because that is what loosens up attendees and helps raise money. We figured that the trade-offs were worth it. Also, having no alcohol really supported DOVES’ cause in that alcohol only enhances the tendencies of domestic violence. This change not only was embraced by our supporters but it led to a very successful event in us raising over $35,000! This is a testament to our community that we can take a position for an event and still be wildly successful. These events take a lot of work and it is always great to see the Board of Directors, Staff and Volunteers come together for a common cause with a great outcome. There are countless hours and so many to people to name that I can’t list them in fear that I might miss someone, but they all know who they are. I thank everyone for their hard work and support and encourage you to be on the lookout for next year’s event as we look for it to be even bigger and better than the last. Thank you for making a difference!
